GPA Calculator

Calculate your grade point average on the standard 4.0 scale from letter grades and credit hours.

About this tool

Grade point average weights each course grade by its credit hours: multiply each grade's point value by the course credits, sum those quality points, and divide by total credits. A 4 credit A and a 1 credit C therefore average to 3.6, not 3.0, and that weighting is what this calculator handles for you.

It uses the standard US 4.0 scale with plus and minus steps of 0.3. Leave unused course rows set to None and they are ignored. To project a cumulative GPA, enter your existing GPA as one course with credits equal to the credit hours it already represents.

Frequently asked questions

How are quality points calculated?

Each letter grade maps to points (A is 4.0, B is 3.0, and so on). Quality points are grade points times credit hours; GPA is total quality points divided by total credit hours.

Does an A+ count as more than 4.0?

At most institutions A+ is still 4.0, which is what this calculator assumes. A few schools award 4.3; check your registrar's scale.
