Percentage Calculator

Solve any percentage problem: percent of a number, percent ratio, and percent change.

About this tool

Percentages show up everywhere: discounts, taxes, tips, grades, statistics, and interest rates. This calculator handles the three most common forms of percentage problem in one place, so you never need to remember which number gets divided by which.

Percent change deserves special care. An increase from 50 to 75 is a 50 percent increase, but the decrease from 75 back to 50 is only 33.3 percent. This calculator always uses the starting value as the base, which is the standard convention.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount?

Choose the first mode. A 30 percent discount on an 80 dollar item is 30 percent of 80, which is 24 dollars off, for a final price of 56 dollars.

Why do percent increase and decrease differ?

Percent change is always measured relative to the starting value, and the starting value differs depending on direction.
